My local geeksite mentioned this one. If you're out of cash for Team Fortress 2, this might be your next fetish:
Battlefield Heroes Freeware.
Appearantly EA games intends to make money (which is their secret plot) by selling ads ingame. Now don't expect the next gen BF2, because that's what Dice is
developping Battlefield
3 for.
Instead, they'll be giving you this (according to the website):
* Battlefield Heroes™ is a brand new Play 4 Free™ game from the people that brought you the multi-million selling Battlefield 1942™ and Battlefield 2™
* It's a fun cartoon-style shooter which caters to players of all skill levels – easy to pick up and play, but with deep character development
* It will be released for the PC as a free download in Summer 2008
I'm not sure who mentioned this first when we discussed the unlock system of BF2 and BF2142, but it seems someone at EA heard it: rumour has it that although the game is free, several unlocks might be available in exchange for .. you guessed it right.. cash!
Furthermore, the gameplay is supposed to be easy to understand ("shoot the other guy", now what's so hard about that???) so it attracts more casual gamers instead of the hardcore FPS freaks who still frequent this abandoned site.
